Reset a LinkSys Router Password
If you have set your router password and forgotten it, you are unable to make any changes to the configuration of the router. Unfortunately, the best way to reset your password is to reset your router to the factory default settings. This will reset all your settings on the router, so make sure that you have them written down somewhere or are able to get them from your ISP.
To reset your LinkSys router to the factory default settings, hold the reset button on the back of the router. You will need to hold it for 30 secs. You may see some of the lights on the front of the unit change - this is fine.
Now that you have reset the router to the default factory settings you will need to reconfigure the router. To do this go to http://192.168.1.1. This will open a webpage requesting a username and password. On newer LinkSys routers the username and password is admin however is older routers the username is blank and password is admin.
Now that you have logged into the router you are able to configure it so you are able to connect to the internet. Make sure if you enable wireless internet that you add a password to protect it.
