How to Unlock MySpace
It might come as a rude shock to know that you can't access MySpace on the library computer or at work. Well mostly, the powers-that-be have a web-filter in place that does not allow you to while away time while you're supposed to be on the pursuit of 'higher motives'. However, where there is a rule, there is a loophole, and thus it is quite possible to unlock MySpace.
Instructions to Unlock MySpace
There are many ways of doing this. You could:
- Use Google's cached version of the site. This could, in fact be used to access any site, but then you will not be able to login to your account on any of the sites.
- Use a translator site to access the website. It works similar to Google's cache. A good try would be babel.altavista.com
- Try an unblocker program. This is free software that works much like a web browser, without the filters. You could try Ultrasurf -- it's free. However, there is a possibility that the website from where you download the unblocker may be blocked too by the web filter.
- Design your own proxy. However this will require some prior knowledge of how proxies work and you will have to spend a decent amount of time at your home computer first. Although it might seem pretty cool, you might not want to spend that kind of time for a few minutes of MySpace browsing.
Using a Proxy Server
However, none of these are as convenient as using a proxy server. A proxy server is one that masks your computer's IP address, so it cannot be identified on a network. Since it cannot be identified, it cannot be stopped either. What they do is pass of a proxy server's IP address as yours and thus you get to bypass the school/work security system. The trick is to find a good proxy server. A very popular place to find proxies is at Tech FAQ Proxy Sites.
However, if you use a popular proxy server, there is a very good chance that the proxy itself will get blocked. So try out lesser known proxies. A good way to do this is to go to a proxy top site like Tech FAQ's proxy sites which will list all the proxy sites you can use. Keep trying out different ones.
Once you're on the proxy site, enter the MySpace URL in the respective field. This might require you to scout around a bit, since different proxies are designed differently, but anything with 'Browse' written next to it is a good indicator!
Ensure that that Javascripts are enabled. To do this, uncheck the Disable Scripts or Disable Javascript box. Enter MySpace and Begin Browsing!
