When you forget your Windows password you may think that you cannot get it back again or get into your computer but there are some simple steps to getting it back.
Remembering Your Windows Password
The best way to remember your password is to use the Password Hints feature of Microsoft Windows. This will give you a hint of your password that you set when you are logging in. This might not be that helpful but if you can think of a hint that only you would be able to figure out the password from it is a helpful feature. You can change your password hint by going to the Control Panel and then going into User Accounts. Then select your account and enter in your password hint you want to set where it asks you to.
Third party companies have also created software to retrieve your password although they can charge a lot for this software there are still a few free ones out there. They are mostly a type of cracking software that is able to hack into your registry and find out your password for you. They are usually extremely easy to use and they only take a few minutes to use. Most will require use of the internet and a USB drive.
Using a Password Reset Disk
Another way to retrieve your lost password is to create a Password Reset Disk. It is best to create one of these when you first set your password as you will not be able to create one when you have forgotten your password. The disk is very easy to use and everybody should create one. Using this disk you will be able to recover your password in a matter of minutes.
When you have figured out your password or used a program to get it back for you, creating a Password Reset Disk would be a good idea. Instructions to Recover a Lost Windows Password
- Open the start menu and click Control Panel and open the user account section.
- Click on your account and then on Related Tasks, open up Prevent a Forgotten password.
- Follow the prompts that follow in the wizard that pops up.
- Insert your disk into the computer.
- Enter your password.
- Continue following the prompts to create your disk.
- When it is finished you should see a prompt saying your disk has been created.
To use this disk when you forget your password all you have to do is insert the disk into your computer and it will allow you to reset your password.
