How to change the screensaver? That is as easy as 1-2-3! Screensavers are added into the PC as a way of giving a desktop your own personal touch. Let's say you love Lord of the Ring. You can use a Lord of the Rings Screensaver that you will see from time to time in the background of your computer. Surely this would brighten up the day. If you want a change of scenery while you are not using your computer then go ahead and change your old screensaver into a cool one, or you could to place no screensaver at all, it is definitely up to you.

There are many websites on the internet that provide you with free screensavers although they do not show you how to change the screensaver. As soon as you have downloaded the screensaver of your choice, here are the steps in changing the screensaver on your PC: The first step is to click on Control Panel under the start menu. On the Control Panel, double click on the Display option in order to view the Display Properties Window. Once you see the option Screen Saver, you will see a list of screen savers available. View the screensavers and once you have decided on the screen saver you want on your PC, click on your selection. You have the option of customizing the screen saver's size and the speed as well as the color by clicking on Settings. Once done, click on the option: Preview for you to view how the screen saver will appear and if you still feel that something is lacking, you can either re-customize or choose a different screen saver. If you are satisfied with your choice, click on the word Ok.

Aside from getting a hold of free screen savers from the World Wide Web, there is downloadable software that could be used to make or design your own screensavers. There are also some businesses that can make a customized screen saver for you, but of course, this could cost a bit of money.

Also remember that not all free downloadable screensavers are safe for your computer. There might be viruses and spyware that could destroy your system if a screensaver is downloaded from a source that is not trustworthy.

Keep in mind that screen savers also use up your computer's memory so if you only have little memory left, the best option for you is to just use a simple screen saver that won't use up that much space. A colorful and detailed screen saver may not only eat up your memory, but also slow down the performance of your PC.
